Ethnic Cultural Savu

Sabu society is a society that occupies an island which is in the Kupang district, called the island of Savu or Sabu or Hawu Rai. Settlement patterns of people called rae Kōwa Sabu (village boat). With an elliptical shape as the ward is built settlements traditionally collected in a group residential patrilokal.

Language

Savu Savu people speaking different with other languages in East Nusa Tenggara. In Kupang regency there are several ethnic groups who had a language different. For example the city of Kupang and surrounding Malays who speak a dialect of Kupang.
Savu language dialects include Raijua (Raijua island), dialect Feeling, Timu, and Seba.

Kinship system

Savu people know patrilineal kinship principle. In everyday life they are living in batih family called Hewue virgin ammu. Batih families united in a traditional ceremony is the extended family who have their own custom homes. They are descended from one grandfather. Small clan called the Hewue Kerogo joint batih several families who were descended from two or three brothers' grandfather. Large clan called Udu Hewue led by Benggu Udu.

Religion

Before the Christian religion into the island of Savu, indigenous people hold beliefs, namely jingitiu. Nowadays most of the population embraced Protestant Christianity. However, their mindset is still jingitiu.

All that is on earth they called rai wawa or below ground from Ama Deo Deo moro or deepenyi (god gather, form, and create). Deo ama highly respected and feared.

They recognize three supernatural beings is wrong Balla (sky), Rai Balla (earth), and Dahi Balla (sea).

Sabu communities know several ceremonies associated with the life of a human behavior including:

a. Hapo kebake ceremony.
b. Hot Lodoki'I
c. Ai Pejio Dabe
d. Circumcision ceremony and the pasha of teeth
e. Funeral.
